Writer’s festivals: the perfect excuse to explore regional NSW this winter

With autumn fading and the Easter and ANZAC Day long weekends behind us, many are now turning their thoughts to a winter break.

The good news is that 2023’s cooler months are brimming with writing and cultural festivals that give book worms and culture vultures numerous mouth-watering reasons for an extended getaway in regional NSW.

After three frustrating years of lock downs and last-minute cancellations, many popular festivals are re-emerging in 2023 from their COVID hibernations. Others are springing up for the first time to feed a growing hunger for domestic travel with a twist of culture.

“StoryFest Ticket Sales Open” Media Release 28 March 2023

Peter FitzSimons and Adam Liaw join star-studded StoryFest 2023 line-up with ticket sales set to open on April 4.

Ticket sales for StoryFest 2023, South Coast’s popular and dynamic storytelling festival, go on sale Tuesday 4 April.

Peter FitzSimons and Adam Liaw join a talent-packed line-up of more than 50 authors, musicians, filmmakers, broadcasters, chefs and more.

StoryFest will take place over four big days and nights from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 June. With events in five venues throughout Milton and Ulladulla, this year’s program is the festival’s biggest yet.

Festival Director Adam Jeffrey says StoryFest 2023 is a celebration of the richness and diversity of Australian storytelling.

“We are so much more than a writers festival. This year’s program includes live music, performances and a film screening as well as a jam-packed program of conversations with leading, contemporary Australian authors.”

Peter FitzSimons is the latest author to join StoryFest Patron Markus Zusak (The Book Thief) and authors Pip Williams (The Dictionary of Lost Words), Robbie Arnott (Limberlost), Chris Hammer (Scrublands), and Holly Wainwright (The Couple Upstairs) as part of the 2023 line-up.

“First Names” Media Release 6 March 2023

Pip Williams, Clare Bowditch, Robbie Arnott and Clementine Ford headline biggest StoryFest yet.

StoryFest – the dynamic storytelling festival based in Milton, Mollymook and Ulladulla - is back for 2023 with a star-studded line-up of more than 50 authors, musicians, filmmakers, broadcasters, chefs – and much, much more. 

Held over four big days and nights from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 June, the festival will host events across six venues including, for the very first time, both Ulladulla Civic Centre and the historic Milton Theatre.

Festival Director Adam Jeffrey says there is something on this year’s StoryFest menu to cater to every taste.

“We are so much more than a writers festival. We’re here to celebrate Australian storytelling in all its richness and diversity.

“For music and theatre fans we’ve got a great program of live performances and lively discussions at Milton Theatre headlined by the wonderful Clare Bowditch.
